The famous duel at Takadanobaba sees Nakamura Yasubei, on his way to aid his uncle, cross paths with the samurai Dan'gen Tōzen, who notices that Yasubei's sash is unraveling and decides to alert him at the duel site. However, upon realizing that his opponent is a fellow samurai of the Chishin school, he leaves the scene. In the aftermath, Tōzen is reprimanded for abandoning a comrade and is excommunicated from the Chishin school. Meanwhile, Yasubei, who gains fame from the duel, receives offers for official positions from various sources, yet his heart belongs to Uesugi's daughter, Chiharu... This film is an adaptation of a novel by Gomi Kosuke, written as a side story to "Chūshingura." It portrays Nakamura Yasubei between the famous duel at Takadanobaba and the raid by the forty-seven loyal samurai, making for an interesting narrative. At the same time, it is thoroughly melodramatic and captures all the charms of the period drama genre.
