The story takes place during the Republic of China era, where a series of bizarre incidents occur in Linjia Town. Many citizens inexplicably fall under a mysterious influence, being controlled and led like zombie spirits, vanishing overnight. The town's watchman, Shen Xiaohan, launches an investigation to rescue the townsfolk and, using the secret techniques of his lineage, ultimately finds and defeats Mr. Jiang, who had gone astray in his practice of snake gu cultivation, thus restoring justice to Linjia Town.
