The collapse of the Republic has cast a shadow over every corner of galactic civilization by the Galactic Empire. To strengthen the suppression of the resistance, Tarkinism directly gave birth to a superweapon capable of destroying planets—the Death Star. The physical scientist Galen Erso (played by Mads Mikkelsen) is the main designer of the Death Star. Erso's daughter Jyn (played by Felicity Jones) experienced the separation from her parents during her childhood and was subsequently raised by the leader of the resistance, Saw Gerrera (played by Forest Whitaker). As an adult, Jyn becomes a criminal and an Imperial prisoner, but is eventually rescued by the resistance. From Gerrera, she learns of the Death Star's existence and witnesses the annihilation of a city. However, the Rebel Alliance is understandably skeptical of the Death Star's existence, and in desperation, Jyn, along with pilot Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna) and others, sets out to a planet that holds the plans for the Death Star, marking the beginning of a war that will determine the fate of the entire universe... The story is adapted from a piece of text at the beginning of "Star Wars: A New Hope" (1977).
