A black-and-white detective film set in a closed room with ten characters, one woman and nine men, one of whom is the killer. "I had never heard of this film before. In preparation for shooting '8 Beauties in a Row', I watched it once and gained a lot from it, gaining a clearer understanding of American films from that era." (Ossang) 'Marie-Octobre' is quite realistic, a heavy film, shot in a very structured way. Ossang takes a different direction – light-hearted, non-realistic, colorful, and satirical (where characters accuse each other). Among similar Christie-style detective films, Ossang prefers Guy Hamilton ('The Mirror Crack'd', 'Evil Under the Sun') and Sidney Lumet's 'Murder on the Orient Express.' The set design of '8 Beauties in a Row' is most reminiscent of this film, featuring spaces like the living room, study, bedroom, and dining room.
