Young genius Richard (Miles Teller) gains the recognition of Franklin Storm, who is researching quantum gates, through his invention of a teleportation device. He is brought onto the team, and with the help of gifted youths like Victor (Toby Kebbell), Johnny (Michael B. Jordan), and Susan (Kate Mara), they finally achieve a breakthrough in quantum gate research. Soon after, the unsatisfied young people recruit Richard's friend Ben (Jamie Bell) to sneak into the unknown world for an adventure, only to be infected by a mysterious energy. After this, they gain abilities such as body stretching, flame control, rock hardening, and invisibility. In order to restore their former selves, the young people venture back to the quantum gate, where they find a previously abandoned companion waiting for them...
