Columbia University in the United States welcomes a new class of students. Black youth Malik (played by Omar Epps) possesses exceptional athletic talent, and to secure a full scholarship, he must train hard to achieve excellent results. The cynical thoughts of super senior Fudge (played by Ice Cube) deeply influence Malik, leading him to feel lost about his future; white girl Kristy (played by Kristy Swanson) finds everything about campus life new and exciting, but after a wild night of drinking, she is raped and subsequently immerses herself in the feminist movement; white boy Remy (played by Michael Rapaport) is dull and conservative, struggling to fit in, until he accidentally meets a group of skinhead friends, leading him down a more paranoid path... This film won the NAACP Image Awards for Best Supporting Actor (Laurence Fishburne) in 1996.
