19-year-old young man Anzai Kunihiko (played by Hiroyuki Sanada), who loves painting, enrolls in an art department at a university, but his life takes a turn. His mother suddenly passes away, dealing a huge blow to this inexperienced young man. A middle-aged man, Takeuchi Tetsuo (played by Tsutomu Yamazaki), who runs a coffee shop by the Dotonbori River, sympathizes with Kunihiko's plight, so he finances his mother's funeral and lets him work at the shop. Tetsuo's son, Masao (played by Koichi Sato), is obsessed with billiards and gambling, which creates tension between father and son. Thus, Tetsuo treats the ambitious Kunihiko as his own, providing him care, while Masao sinks deeper into the mire of betting. One day, while sketching on a bridge, Kunihiko encounters the graceful Michiko (played by Keiko Matsuzaka), and a mysterious connection quietly unfolds at that moment… This film is adapted from the work of Teru Miyamoto titled "Dotonbori River," part of his "River Trilogy" (including "The River of Mud" and "Firefly River").
