Max (Gene Hackman) and Ryan (Al Pacino) feel that they have met too late in life, as they make plans to reunite after having to part ways for personal reasons. Ryan, a sailor, has finally returned home after seven years of drifting at sea, reuniting with his long-missed wife. Max, a former prisoner, has completed his sentence and decides to open a car wash while also mending his relationship with his sister, Kelly (Dorothy Tristan). Max invites Ryan to join him in his car wash business, and after meeting Max's sister and her partner, the four spirited adults embark on their own celebration.
