Humans and numerous alien species coexist in a bustling interstellar metropolis called Alpha, the City of a Thousand Planets. For centuries, Alpha has become a marvelous paradise where various races live in peace and prosperity. Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are chosen to be the guardians of Alpha; they are operatives of the security division, assigned to intercept a trade involving a rare item that has a mysterious connection to a rare species believed to have vanished decades ago. When they arrive at the vast Alpha city, their commander Arun Filitt (Clive Owen) is kidnapped at the command center, and the duo begins to realize the unusual value of the item they possess. They pursue the perpetrators and find themselves embroiled in an unfolding interstellar incident...
