The small theater actor Takushi Sakurai (played by Masato Sakai) has struggled for many years without success, living in poverty and facing heartbreak in love, to the point of despair where he even fails at suicide. In desperation, he has no choice but to enter a public bath to wash, and unexpectedly slips with a bar of soap, causing a stranger to collapse. In a moment of impulse, Sakurai steals the stranger’s locker key and begins living under the alias Kondo, experiencing a life of wealth and comfort he never dared to envision. However, little does he know that Kondo (played by Teruyuki Kagawa) is a cold-blooded assassin with a fearsome reputation in the underworld. Subsequently, Sakurai is forced to take on assignments from the gangster world, reluctantly starting a life of killing. Meanwhile, Kondo awakens in the hospital with amnesia, mistakenly believing he is the desperate Sakurai. With the help of the beautiful woman Sanae Mizushima (played by Ryoko Hirosue), he slowly begins to rediscover himself as an actor, struggling to find direction, during which both he and Sanae undergo subtle changes in their hearts. And when his memory returns in an instant, the fates of the three become intertwined... This film was awarded the 8th place in the top ten films by the Japanese Film Quarterly in 2012.
