Tony (Ray Milland) and Margot (Grace Kelly) are a seemingly perfect couple with a strained relationship. Tony often neglects his lovely wife for his career and hobbies, putting their marriage in jeopardy. Meanwhile, the lonely Margot inevitably sparks a romantic connection with writer Mark, leading to dates and correspondence that Tony discovers. Instead of confronting them, Tony anonymously warns Margot with a letter. However, Mark's unexpected visit to their home leads Tony to hatch a devious plan for revenge and to seize Margot's wealth. Tony offers his old classmate Les a price of one thousand pounds to execute a meticulous murder scheme, complete with crafted alibis and set props like a phone, keys, and curtains. Yet, plans change unexpectedly, and Les not only loses the reward but also his life. Tony, in a moment of desperation, comes up with a clever solution...
