Wendy (played by Alison Steadman) and her husband Andy (played by Jim Broadbent) have been married for many years and have two daughters, Natalie (played by Claire Skinner) and Nicola (played by Jane Horrocks). Wendy is a devoted housewife, managing both big and small affairs at home, while Andy works hard, hoping to one day start his own business. Natalie is a cheerful plumber who yearns for a free-spirited life and enjoys spending time with her friends. However, Nicola is quite the opposite; she is somewhat neurotic, constantly tense, and suffers from anorexia. The relationship between Nicola and her boyfriend starts to falter, pushing Nicola to the brink of a mental breakdown. Meanwhile, Andy suffers severe injuries in an accident, placing the entire burden of the family on Wendy and Natalie’s shoulders.
