In the later stages of the War of Resistance, near Xuanwu Pass in Shanxi, the Japanese Army's Infantry Regiment 463 was annihilated by the Eighth Route Army, with all personnel wiped out and the military flag representing the honor of the Japanese Army lost. The Japanese command then ordered a despised independent foolish brigade known as the "Left-Writing Squad" to search desperately for the flag.
