A biographical film about Dalton Trumbo, the famous Hollywood screenwriter. Trumbo began his screenwriting career in Hollywood in the 1930s, contributing classic works such as "Roman Holiday," "Exodus," "Spartacus," and "Johnny Got His Gun." Behind the honors, Trumbo's career was actually very tumultuous; he faced persecution from the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) in the late 1940s, was fired by MGM in 1950, and served time in prison. After his release, he was blacklisted by the government and struggled to find work, leading him to write scripts under other people's names. He won two Oscars for Best Screenplay for "Roman Holiday" and "The Brave One," but neither credit bore his name at the time. It wasn't until 1960 that Trumbo emerged from persecution, and his screenwriting talent finally received the recognition it deserved.
