Flora (Eve Hewson) is a young mother living in Dublin who lost her ambitions long ago. While trying to raise her son Max (Orén Kinlan), she juggles a childcare job to make ends meet and deals with a troubling co-parenting arrangement with her unfriendly ex. The relationship between mother and son is strained as they struggle to understand each other. Flora disguises herself as a selfish person to seek autonomy and self-love, while Max yearns for independence and self-expression, leading him down a path of crime and becoming a thief. The police encourage Flora to find a hobby for Max, and she gifts him a discarded second-hand guitar for his birthday, but he refuses it. She decides to learn from a music-loving teacher via Zoom. As the mother-son relationship develops, Max's own musical talent emerges, and music revitalizes their lives, awakening long-dormant dreams and helping those in isolation form new connections.
