A mute art teacher from Seoul, In-ho (played by Gong Yoo), arrives in Mujin to apply for a loving school for the deaf. A thick fog unexpectedly causes him to collide with another vehicle, and during repairs, he encounters human rights organization member, Yeo-jin (played by Jung Yu-mi). In-ho's wife passed away early, leaving his 8-year-old daughter, who suffers from asthma, in the care of her grandmother, so he works hard to provide for his family. However, the twin principal and the director pressure In-ho to pay a bribe of 50 million won. Meanwhile, In-ho gradually discovers a tense and suffocating atmosphere enveloping the school. Three children draw attention: the intelligent Kim Yeon-du (played by Kim Hyun-soo), the gluttonous Jeon Yu-ri (played by Jung In-soo), and the younger brother who committed suicide, Min-soo (played by Baek Sung-hwan), who is always covered in bruises. After class, In-ho hears cries and screams coming from the girls' restroom, but he doesn't investigate further due to the guard's obstruction. Later, he accidentally witnesses the principal bribing a police officer, the director violently beating Min-soo, and the dormitory supervisor punishing Yeon-du by drowning. A shocking secret is slowly unveiled, and the truth shocks South Korea… This film is based on real events from a deaf school in Gwangju in 2005, adapted from the novel of the same name by South Korean author Gong Ji-young.
