Philippe (Kaede Merad) has worked at a post office in Provence, southern France, for over ten years. His monotonous life and his unhappy wife, Julie (Zoé Félix), leave him feeling oppressed. To please his wife, Philippe disguises himself as a disabled person to apply for a promotion to the prestigious southern coast, but unexpectedly, he is sent to the far northern town of Bergues as the postmaster. To the southerners, the climate there is harsh and cold, the people are unsophisticated, and they speak with the hard-to-understand Ch'ti accent, making it a place comparable to hell. Philippe, disheartened, bids farewell to his family and nervously heads to his new post alone. However, to his surprise, he finds that his new subordinates and the local residents are very warm and welcoming, and he quickly becomes friends with the postman, Anthony (Dany Boon). Philippe gradually falls in love with this simple and quaint little town, but when he tries to persuade Julie to come live in the North with him, he faces her skepticism... The film was nominated for the 2008 European Film Awards and the 2009 César Awards in France.
