1991 Cannes Film Festival Directors' Fortnight. As the final installment of the "Taisho Trilogy," this film is filled with lustful eroticism and absurdity, telling a ghost story centered around the character of the famous Japanese painter and poet Takehisa Yumeji (1884-1934) and his works. The character is imagined by the director as a playboy obsessed with daydreams, played by former rock star Kenji Sawada, who is constantly tormented by the pursuit of women and the fear of death. He falls in love with many women but captures the heart of none. At the same time, he continuously grapples with rival peers but fails to overcome them. To pay homage to Seijun Suzuki, renowned Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai incorporated the film score by Masaru Satô from this film "Yumeji" in "In the Mood for Love."
