Directed by Shin Adachi, who won numerous awards including Best Screenplay at the Japanese Academy Awards for "100 Yen Love," this film brings his semi-autobiographical novel "The Diary of a Good-for-Nothing" to the screen. This film marks the debut of Yukiya Ikekawa, a member of the Kansai Johnny's group "Boys be," and centers around seven sixth-grade boys in a small town during the late Showa period, depicting a youthful era filled with laughter, tears, entanglements, and challenges. Unlike other similar works that may seem glossy and somewhat pale, Adachi presents a nearly candid confrontation with youth, direct, vigorous, and full of strength. He also employs the legendary director Shinji Sōmai's signature long takes in the film, paying homage to his former mentor while capturing the boys in their most vivid and dynamic state.
