The story begins in 1930s Hollywood, where 14-year-old Judy (played by Renée Zellweger) is discovered by agent Meyer (played by Richard Cordery) due to her sweet voice, launching her career to stardom. However, Judy is unaware that along with the fame and wealth comes considerable pain. Fast forward several decades, Judy, now 40, has divorced her husband Sidney (played by Rufus Sewell) and is raising their two children, Lorna (played by Bella Ramsey) and Joey (played by Lewin Lloyd), alone, facing dire financial struggles. Desperate, Judy makes the decision to leave her children with her ex-husband and move to the UK to pursue her career further, but by this time, her health is deteriorating, and worse still, she has already lost the trust of her fans.
