In 1930s Franklin, America, the Bondurant brothers - Forrest (Tom Hardy), Howard (Jason Clarke), and Jack (Shia LaBeouf) - thrive in their illegal moonshine business, gaining local notoriety. However, the real gangster boss in the area is Floyd Banner (Gary Oldman). Forrest's bar hires a new waitress, Maggie Beauford (Jessica Chastain), while Jack falls for the daughter of a priest, Bertha Minnix (Mia Wasikowska). Jack often experiments with his friend Cricket Pate (Dane DeHaan), but his brothers see him as a child who can't truly participate in their business.
