An American biologist secretly brings a precious Amazonian silver arowana to Japan, inside which the ovaries of a more precious red arowana are implanted. Along the way, the arowana is stolen by a Chinese gang, prompting the biologist to hurriedly hire a detective to investigate, while the police also get involved in the case. The detective agency's receptionist, Matsu (played by Miyoko Yoshimoto), is dispatched to investigate the arowana case. Based on various clues, she arrives in a factory district and encounters a mysterious fish farmer, Natsu (played by Tadanobu Asano), who has unkempt hair and lives a monotonous life with the arowana. The empty warehouse is filled with fish tanks, and Wagner's music echoes throughout the day. Every time someone attempts to kill Natsu, he easily deals with them. Matsu can't help but develop feelings for him, but the mystery of the arowana remains unsolved.
