George (played by Paul Rudd), an elementary school teacher, meets Nina (played by Jennifer Aniston), a social worker, at a social dinner. George learns from Nina that he has been abandoned by his gay partner, leaving him heartbroken. Apart from the emotional blow, he also has to move out of his shared home, leaving him in a difficult situation with no place to go. Kind-hearted Nina offers George a place to stay in her apartment, and gradually, they become close friends who share everything. Nina also realizes that she is not compatible with her boyfriend, and despite being pregnant, she decisively breaks up with him. After hearing that George had a sexual encounter with a girl during high school, she wants to seduce him. However, George's boyfriend comes back and interrupts this budding romance. However, George is still Nina's ideal choice for the father of her children.
