It won second place in the 1970 Film Weekly's Top Ten Awards. ② This is the second film by social cinema master Yamamoto Sabu that reflects the history of the invasion of China, set during the confrontation between China and Japan, as the Chinese resistance movement began to grow. The Go-Dai family was also affected. The film won fourth place in the 1971 Film Weekly's Top Ten Awards. ③ This is the third film by social cinema master Yamamoto Sabu that reflects the history of the invasion of China, depicting how the invasion transformed from a relentless advance to a series of defeats, and the Go-Dai family went from profiting from the war to disintegration, with members choosing different paths and destinations amid unprecedented turmoil. This trilogy opens the curtain on Japan's monumental social films of the 1970s, marking a significant contribution to Japanese film history by director Yamamoto Sabu. The film won tenth place in the 1973 Film Weekly's Top Ten Awards. ============================================ ② As Japan's invasion of China deepens, the Go-Dai family experiences a series of joys and sorrows. The second son of Go-Dai, Shunsuke, runs away from home to seek his own path and falls in love with a married woman, Onko. Both deeply wish to live together for a long time, but Onko struggles to make a decision under her husband's pressure, causing her great distress. The youngest daughter of Go-Dai, Shunko, falls in love with leftist student Koei, who is arrested by the authorities for participating in the anti-war movement. Although he is later released from prison, he receives a conscription order. Shunko encourages Koei to live well and to return to her. The boyfriend of the eldest daughter, Yukiko, has become a lieutenant and, after many twists and turns, finally gets reassigned back to Tokyo, but inadvertently becomes embroiled in the assassination case of the military bureau chief Nagata, losing contact with Yukiko. Additionally, Chinese guerrilla fighter Xu Zailin falls in love with female guerrilla fighter Quan Mingfu. Xu clashes with a representative sent by the "Manchurian Provincial Committee" over troop withdrawal, insisting on fleeing, while Quan is shot and dies. Zhao Ruifang, a wealthy Chinese girl, participates in the "anti-Japanese movement" but falls in love with Japanese doctor Hattori. With Hattori's help, she escapes the gendarmerie's capture and flees to Shanghai.
