Former boxer Jōki Ranjirō (played by Yujiro Ishihara) has gone through the ups and downs of life and now runs a restaurant called "Reef" in a port. He waits every day for letters from faraway Brazil, where his brother lives, always ready to embark on a journey to that land of freedom. However, countless letters eventually end up with the response "No such person found." One night, Ranjirō encounters a flustered woman who introduces herself as Sae Yoko (played by Mie Nakahara), a singer from a nightclub who is hiding after injuring a man who attempted to assault her, feeling desperate to take her own life. Ranjirō shelters Yoko, and their brief time together leads to a mutual fondness. But dark clouds gather as Yoko is eventually taken away by the gang controlling her. At the same time, Ranjirō also receives clues about his brother from this gang. In order to find his brother, Ranjirō gets caught up in a massive whirlpool of darkness...
