Sally (played by Meg Ryan) drives Harry (played by Billy Crystal) to New York, and they meet for the first time. During the trip, they have a disagreement and part ways unhappily, leaving behind the classic question: "Can men and women be true friends, excluding the involvement of 'sex'?" Five years later. The two unexpectedly run into each other at the airport. At this point, Sally is immersed in the sweetness of a new romance, while Harry is about to enter a formal marriage. Harry tells Sally, "When both are in love with someone else, men and women might be able to be friends, but soon they'll question why they're dating someone they can only be friends with." Sally walks away. Ten years later. Heartbroken Sally encounters recently divorced Harry again. Harry says to Sally, "Are we going to be friends now? You might be the first charming woman I don’t want to take to bed." Late-night phone calls, spending Christmas together, and strategizing for each other's relationships, Harry and Sally share an unspoken understanding. However, is this really the beginning of a beautiful friendship? Or is it the dawning of a misinterpreted feeling...?
