After a factory closure, the unemployed Isayama (played by Shinobu Terajima) walks down the street feeling downcast, encountering a variety of people: workers self-harming in protests against company bankruptcies, a gang leader who intended to donate organs out of goodwill but was killed, a pitiful man imprisoned while his wife cheats on him, a beautiful single mother (played by Ryoko Shinohara) whose child is trapped in a fire, an elderly man who won the lottery but died from a heart attack, a middle-aged man who committed suicide after losing his job, and a wealthy man suffering from a terminal illness. Isayama also experiences great ups and downs, encountering different people each time, with everyone sharing their stories with him while he listens silently. Later, he encounters a strange incident; upon returning home the next day, his wife (played by Naomi Nishida) is waiting for him.
