Clover (Ellie Kendrick) left her hometown long ago to make her own way in the world, leaving her brother Charlie and their father Aubrey (David Troughton) to live a life of dependence in their hometown. The news of Charlie's death shatters Clover's peaceful life, and she has to return to her long-absent hometown to deal with her brother's affairs, where she meets her father, with whom she has grown emotionally estranged. Everything in her hometown has changed and is unlike Clover's memories, and her father, now old, seems like a stranger to her. Another purpose of Clover's visit is to investigate the truth behind Charlie's suicide, as she cannot believe that her usually optimistic and cheerful brother would choose to end his life.
