This film uses the frivolity, jealousy, and betrayal between two pairs of lovers to create humor. The beggar Boudu is rescued and taken in by a kind-hearted bookseller from the Seine River. The bookseller's wife and maid are very annoyed with the lazy Boudu, who not only fails to show gratitude but also seduces the bookseller's wife and maid, causing chaos in the household. Ironically, the bookseller himself is also having an affair with the maid, and the messy love lives of these two couples ultimately decide to resolve their issues with a wedding banquet.
