The story takes place in 1960s Tulsa, where students are divided into two gangs: the Socs, wealthy kids born with silver spoons in their mouths, and the Greasers, a group of underprivileged boys from the slums. The two gangs have always been at odds, leading to intense conflicts and serving as a significant source of instability in the area. Ponyboy (C. Thomas Howell), Johnny (Ralph Macchio), and Dallas (Matt Dillon) are members of the Greasers, with a strong bond of friendship among them. In a brutal fight, Johnny accidentally kills Bob (Leif Garrett), a member of the Socs. With Dallas's help, Ponyboy and Johnny take refuge in a church, which becomes a temporary haven for the boys to escape the harsh realities of their turbulent world.
