The film tells the heartwarming story of a glass maker, Charlie (played by Charles Chaplin), and an abandoned baby (played by Jackie Coogan). Charlie finds an abandoned baby next to a garbage can and adopts him. When the child grows to about four or five years old, he becomes very sensible. The father and son perform a comedy act together, where the son breaks glass and the father replaces it to make a living. Charlie hides with his "son" from the police to prevent him from being sent to an orphanage. However, the child's mother later acquires money and offers a reward for her child. Someone steals the child away from Charlie for the money, and despite his efforts, he cannot find him. Exhausted, Charlie dreams of going to heaven. When he wakes up, he finds his "son" standing right in front of him with his mother... The film ranked 67th in the 1978 issue of Brazilian magazine "Título" listing the 100 best films.
