The Numata family consists of four members. Father Kōsuke (played by Jūzō Itami) and mother Chikako (played by Saori Yuki) have high hopes for their two school-age sons. The eldest son Shin'ichi (played by Junichi Tsujita) studies hard and successfully gains admission to a prestigious Seibu High School. After this, the entire family's hopes are pinned on their younger son Shigeyuki (played by Ichirō Nagai), who is currently in the third year of junior high school. However, Shigeyuki's grades are not good, and after several private tutors with little success, a student from a third-rate university, Katsu Yoshimoto (played by Yūsaku Matsuda), comes to apply for the tutoring position. With the arrival of this somewhat odd tutor, Shigeyuki's grades begin to improve... Adapted from the novel of the same name by Yoshihira Honma.
