The veteran Moss (Brad Dourif) returns home with scars and military checks, but all that remains are dilapidated houses and farms. Moss embarks on a journey to Tuckingham to start a new life. In this strange and bizarre small town, Moss quickly befriends the talkative young man Eck, the blind preacher Asa (Harry Dean Stanton) who is preaching to deceive, and his daughter Lily.
