Gina (played by Keri Russell) excels in making various delicious pies, drawing inspiration from her everyday experiences. However, her life is not happy; she has been troubled for years by a loveless marriage. She is determined to participate in a pie competition, hoping to earn enough money to leave her husband Earl (played by Jeremy Sisto). Since becoming pregnant, she knows that her husband is a selfish man who cannot raise a child. In her confusion, she meets obstetrician Pomeroy (played by Nathan Fillion) and they fall passionately in love, though he is also married. She knows her actions are wrong, but she cannot control her meetings with Pomeroy, and she receives much insight from her friends despite feeling guilty. On the day her daughter is born, she is resolved to separate from her husband and to handle her relationship with Pomeroy properly.
