On the bustling streets of Paris, the beautiful woman Garance (played by Arletty) first meets the actor Frédérick Lemaître (played by Pierre Brasseur) and then encounters Baptiste Deburau (played by Jean-Louis Barrault). She also has a suitor, Pierre-François Lacenaire, a thief and a troublemaker. One night, Baptiste meets Garance again in a bar, confesses his love for her, and they both like each other.
