Three elementary school students suddenly become curious about "death" and team up to observe a nearby elderly loner to find out how he will die. The old man is initially very angry at the three kids, but after slowly letting down his guard, the four of them get along well, and the old man's once rundown home is revitalized. Gradually, the old man reveals many deep-seated secrets, including that he was married and has killed during the war. The students try various ways to help the old man find his wife, but they encounter the old man's granddaughter. One day, after playing soccer, the students return home only to find that the old man has passed away. After the funeral, dragonflies and butterflies emerge from the old man's yard well, as if he is officially bidding farewell to the world.
