Sunako receives a letter from Okinawa, where the sender, Turu Oomura, claims to be her half-brother. Sunako, along with her father's fiancée, Momoko, travels to Okinawa to find her brother. However, Turu has seen Momoko before and treats her like a sister, showing no feelings for Sunako. Momoko betrays her fiancé and falls in love with Turu. Sunako accidentally meets Kuniyoshi, who might also be Turu's father. Kuniyoshi and Sunako's father, Kikuchi, were college classmates, and Turu does not know which of them is his parent. Once adversaries, Kuniyoshi and Kikuchi are now important figures in Okinawa and Tokyo; reflecting on their past entanglements with a smile seems to be the most appropriate attitude. The relationship between Okinawa and Japan is metaphorically reflected in this story of blood ties.
