In the East of the United States, Charlestown, a suburb of Boston, has become a paradise forgotten by the rule of law. A large proportion of the population is made up of Irish-American blue-collar workers, and the impoverished living conditions and suffocating pressures drive people to take risks, with bank robberies happening frequently, leading to a sense of madness and despair. One morning, the beautiful bank manager Claire Keesey (played by Rebecca Hall) encounters a group of robbers wearing skull masks, and she is taken hostage. Strangely, Claire miraculously survives, as if the events of that morning never took place. One day, she meets the tall and handsome Doug MacRay (played by Ben Affleck), and a wonderful fate unfolds, changing both their destinies... This film is adapted from the original work by Chuck Hogan.
