Spring 2013 CX Japanese Drama SPThe second installment of the special drama "Ikkyu-san," starring Fuku Suzuki, which warmed hearts and brought smiles throughout Japan when it aired last June, has been confirmed. The broadcast will take place on May 5th (Sunday), Children's Day, at 7 PM, a day that perfectly fits "Ikkyu-san." "Ikkyu-san" has featured popular figures of the time acting in works by the Fuji TV series, including Yasuko Tomita (1985), Yui Asaka (1986), and Kazuki Enari (2004), generating much discussion. Last June, Fuku Suzuki's version of "Ikkyu-san" aired, with his cleverness and lovable character being a perfect match for the role, capturing the hearts of many, from children to adults. The second installment of "Ikkyu-san" will feature three original stories. The first act showcases children developing friendships while indulging in boyish adventures, making it ideal for Children's Day. Themes of "love" and "parent-child affection" are also strongly portrayed, delivering an upgraded scale of "laughter" and "tears" from the first installment. Returning cast members include Hironobu Narumi as Shin'emon, Seiran Kobayashi as Sayo, Narumi Yasuda as Ikkyu's mother, Iyo, Umejakuchu Nakamura as the monk, and Noriyuki Higashiyama as the shogun, Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, so please look forward to it. Moreover, in this installment, Kana Kurashina will play Tsukihime, who has feelings for Shin'emon, while Akihiro Nakao will portray a man struggling with love across social barriers, and Kiriko Isono will play Yachiyo, the leader of a traveling troupe. Additionally, Shota Akima, a child actor, has been cast as Kotaro, a spoiled and competitive young lord who is a relative of the shogun. His impressive acting is certainly that of a genius child actor! We look forward to seeing Shota-kun, who will surely gain attention in the future. Filming began recently at a certain studio in Tokyo. After about 10 months since the last "Ikkyu-san," Fuku-chan expressed his joy with a big smile, saying, "I'm happy to do this together again." He quickly adapted to the long-absent set and played the adorable Ikkyu-san. During scenes with Seiran and the young monks, he appeared to enjoy acting alongside children of his age. There were moments in between shoots when they chatted happily, but when the director called for "ready," his expression changed instantly as he transformed into Ikkyu-san, showing a professional side. On the second day of shooting, guests Kana Kurashina and Akihiro Nakao also began filming. Upon spotting them, Fuku-chan energetically greeted, "I'm Fuku Suzuki. Nice to meet you." Both Kurashina and Nakao smiled, clearly smitten by Fuku-chan's appearance as Ikkyu-san. Additionally, on this day, there were exciting sword fighting scenes involving Shin'emon, Tsukihime, and Naomasa—after numerous rehearsals, the three were serious and focused, and Fuku-chan watched them intently. The passionate sword fighting scenes between the three are a must-see. As Fuku-chan has grown and matured, we can't take our eyes off what kind of Ikkyu-san he will portray in this installment. Additionally, Fuku-chan is also making his debut in a female role! During a costume fitting when he dressed as a girl, he was reportedly quite into it. Having tackled diverse roles like "Yokai Ningen" and "Former Adult" with performances surpassing adult expectations, we can't wait to see what kind of female role he will present this time! Fuku-chan stated, "This Ikkyu-san is hard-hitting with lots of action, so I hope everyone enjoys watching it. There's a love story for Shin'emon, and there are also scenes with my mother, so I'm looking forward to it! It airs on May 5th, Sunday, Children's Day, at 7 PM. Please watch 'Chibi Maruko-chan,' 'Sazae-san,' and then 'Ikkyu-san,'" appealing cutely. This year, on Children's Day, Fuku-chan will deliver healing and smiles to all of Japan as Ikkyu-san! We hope families will enjoy it together.
