Keller (Hugh Jackman) is a carpenter whose daughter Anna (Erin Gerasimovich) mysteriously disappears with her friend Joey (Kyla Drew Simmons) during an accident. Desperate to find out what happened to his daughter, Keller seeks help from the police. The case's lead investigator, Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal), quickly focuses on a man named Alex (Paul Dano). Unfortunately, due to a lack of evidence, the police are forced to release Alex after forty-eight hours. Disillusioned with the police, Keller decides to take matters into his own hands to find his daughter. The experienced Keller captures Alex himself, hoping to extract information about his daughter's whereabouts through force. Will Anna and Joey be saved in the end? Is Alex, who insists he is innocent, truly the culprit?
