This film is adapted from the experiences of chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi, who was born in Katwe, the largest slum in Uganda. A local church provides porridge to those who come to learn chess, and Phiona joins a chess class. With her extraordinary talent, she improves her skills and eventually represents her country on the international chess stage.
