The story takes place in Saitama Prefecture, Japan, where there is a street specializing in the cast iron business. Ishiguro Tsingoro (played by Eijirō Ozaki) is a cast iron worker at the Matsunaga factory. Here, the only young worker is a man named Tsukamoto Katsuji (played by Mitsuo Hamada); the rest of the workers are elderly men. Due to poor factory performance, the Matsunaga factory was acquired by the large company Marusan, and Tsingoro and the other older employees were ruthlessly laid off due to their advanced age. In a company run by a friend's father, Tsingoro finds it difficult to secure a job, but ultimately decides to resign due to his rigid adherence to tradition and lack of understanding of new technologies. To help make ends meet, Tsingoro's wife has to secretly work as a waitress in an izakaya while taking care of their child. All of this is observed by Junko (played by Sayuri Yoshinaga).
