This film was produced by Shochiku in Japan in 1979, based on the novel "Disaster City/Haunted Town" by Ellery Queen, with the detective's name changed from Ellery Queen to Robert. The plot remains faithful to the original work and won the Japanese Academy Award and the Film Daily Award that year (both for Best Supporting Actress, awarded to Mayumi Ogawa). When the film premiered, Danai (one of the Queen brothers) specifically traveled to Japan to attend the ceremony.
