This is a movie about growing up. Famous writer Gordie (played by Richard Dreyfuss) recalls an adventure he had when he was 12 years old: young Gordie (played by Wil Wheaton) and his three friends Chris (played by River Phoenix), Teddy (played by Corey Feldman), and Vern set out to the forest across the river to find the body of a 12-year-old boy, aiming to be heroes. The four boys come from families with their own issues, each carrying their own burdens. Throughout the journey, each character's personality is vividly portrayed: the boys' strengths and weaknesses are amplified through a series of actions like dodging trains, climbing over fences, and traversing forests; each of them has dreams that seem just out of reach… Nominated for Best Motion Picture and Best Director at the 1987 Golden Globes; Nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 1987 Academy Awards
