Bernadette (played by Cate Blanchett) and her husband Elgin (played by Billy Crudup) have been married for many years and together they raise their lovely daughter Abbey (played by Emma Nelson). To outsiders, they appear to be a model family. Over the years, Bernadette has dedicated herself entirely to building the family, unconditionally sacrificing herself to support every choice her husband makes. Recently, Bernadette has been plagued by severe insomnia and intense anxiety, becoming increasingly unwilling to go out and engage with others, isolating herself within the four walls of her home, making it difficult for even her husband and daughter to reach her inner self. Bernadette suddenly realizes that apart from her family, she has almost nothing in her world. At the crucial moment when the family decides to take a trip to Antarctica, Bernadette goes missing.
