In the early 20th century, the Amberson family was a prestigious family in the area. Young Eugene Morgan (Joseph Cotten) desperately pursues Isabel from the Amberson family (Dolores Costello) but to no avail, as Isabel eventually marries Wilbur Minafer (Donald Dillaway), and they have a son named George (Tim Holt). George grows up spoiled by his parents and is a proud child from a young age, becoming even worse as he matures. Returning home from college, George meets Eugene Morgan, who is visiting their home. At this time, Morgan is involved in researching automobiles; his wife has passed away, leaving him with a daughter, Lucy (Anne Baxter). George falls in love with Lucy, and his aunt seems to favor Morgan as well. Soon, George's father passes away, and George begins to take charge of the Amberson family. He hears rumors about Morgan and his mother, strictly hindering any development, and takes his mother on a trip to Europe. Meanwhile, Morgan's automobile research continues to grow but is met with George's disdain. Ignoring social progress, George gradually loses everything he once had as the Amberson family's decline continues... This film is adapted from Booth Tarkington's novel published in 1918 and was nominated for Oscars for Best Supporting Actress and Best Picture.
