Teruhi (played by Mieko Harada) lives a life of mutual dependence with her daughter, Natsusa (played by Maho Namba), after her husband passes away. One day, Teruhi's half-brother Takezō unexpectedly finds his long-lost sister, and this reunion gradually reminds Teruhi of her not-so-happy childhood. After the death of her father, Chen Wenxiong (played by Takakuni Nakai), Teruhi, left without care, was sent to an orphanage. One day, her long-lost mother, Toyoko (played by Mieko Harada), suddenly appears and takes Teruhi back home. However, Toyoko does not treat Teruhi well, often hitting and scolding her; it is only when combing her mother’s hair that Teruhi receives a bit of affirmation. Unable to endure such days any longer, Teruhi decides to run away from home. Now, Toyoko runs a beauty salon in a small fishing village, and Teruhi decides to visit her mother.
