The film is considered a representative feminist movie that fights against the patriarchal society. The housewife Selma (Geena Davis), living in a dull and mundane household, becomes weary of her ordinary life and work alongside her close friend Louise (Susan Sarandon), a waitress at a cafe. They decide to travel together to escape their routine. On the way, in a parking lot outside a bar, Selma narrowly escapes being raped by an unknown man, but Louise arrives just in time and shoots the man dead.
