On his daughter's birthday, middle-aged man Woo Dae-su (played by Choi Min-sik) is suddenly kidnapped and goes missing on his way home while drunk. He finds himself imprisoned for no reason in a mysterious private jail. After unsuccessfully attempting to end his life, Woo Dae-su watches TV and eats fried dumplings for every meal. Through the television, he learns that his wife has been murdered, his daughter is missing, and he is suspected of being the killer. Thus, Woo Dae-su begins to exercise, determined to take revenge, and spends a long 15 years in captivity. One day, when Woo secretly tunnels through the wall, he is released and sees the light of day again. He desperately seeks the reason for his abduction and launches a crazed plan for revenge. He meets a young sushi waitress (played by Kang Hye-jung) and tracks down his enemies with the help of old classmates, successfully punishing the prison guard (played by Wu Dashi). Meanwhile, the mastermind behind it all, Lee Woo-jin (played by Yoo Ji-tae), also comes to light...
