In early 20th century South America, Peru. The opera-obsessed white man Fitzgerald (played by Klaus Kinski) is known by the locals as the dreamer "Fitzcarraldo." Fitzcarraldo often engages in incomprehensible actions, especially after experiencing a performance by the world-famous tenor Caruso at the grand theater in Brazil, leading him to conceive the mad idea of building a grand theater in a small town in Peru. To secure sufficient funds, Fitzcarraldo takes on a task proposed by a local rubber baron to harvest in the mysterious and terrifying Ucayali rainforest, embarking on a thrilling journey. The film "Fitzcarraldo," directed by the renowned German filmmaker Werner Herzog, won the Best Director Award at the 35th Cannes Film Festival in 1982 and was nominated for the Palme d'Or, as well as receiving a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 40th Golden Globe Awards in 1983.
